Over the course fall and winter, we are launching regional cohorts. Cohorts are small groups (between 10 and 20 people) who commit to learning and growing together over the course of 6 months. Each cohort will participate in monthly meetings that include a popular education session on a racial justice topic, opportunities to look at our own racial privilege and how we are situated in our community, and moving forward together through taking action. Cohorts will likely be meeting in facilitator’s/participant’s homes. We will have three cohorts to start: Fairfax (launches this September), Alexandria/Arlington (January 2018 launch), Prince William (March 2018 launch). Cohorts involve a lot of community-building, so you’re invited to consider the following when signing up:
We ask that you make the following commitment to the best of your ability. If you can’t right now, that’s okay! We’ll have more cohorts starting later.
– Attend 6 cohort meetings (4 hours each, 1 per month for 6 months; most likely on Saturdays)
– Have a genuine willingness to learn, change, and grow
– Read materials for cohort meetings prior to each meeting
Cohorts are a great way to connect more deeply with other SURJ folks and to learn and grown together in a more intimate setting than our larger, shorter chapter meetings. If you’d like to sign up, please do so here! We look forward to seeing how this new (to us) organizing model strengthens our commitments to each other and to dismantling white supremacy together.
